Paige "Mynx" Scamardo
(Part-time Instructor)
The name "Mynx" seemed to fit my style, personality, and character perfectly. I have always been an animal lover, and can truly connect with the Minx. I am a free spirit, affectionate, loyal, and courageous.
Through dance I find myself. I am no longer shy or timid. When I dance I am proud of myself and believe in myself more than any other time. Through belly dance I have learned to show my true colors and find myself.
People often wonder "How can you 'just find yourself' through dance?", but some how I did. It makes me who I am. Its peaceful, beautiful and fun. It helps me come out of my protective shell and love the body I have, the one that God has blessed me with.
There are no walls to shield you in dance, only free space to dance in.
I came to realize my passion when I decided to stop dancing for a while due to medical problems. It was hard to stop dancing, however, that is when I came to know that dancing is what I was meant to do . Belly dancing became my happy place (the only place I could be completely vulnerable while knowing I was safe and comfortable).
I have a history of many different types of dance through cheer-leading, ballet, jazz, tap, and gymnastics. None of these styles have given me the passion and the self confidence that belly dance gives me, but I love them all the same.
I first began dancing in 2003. My sister Sphinx (Peggy) had bought the Dolphina/ GoddessLife Belly Dance series. After a few weeks, I yearned for something more, and in 2005 I found the "LaLovely Lady Morrigahan". I enrolled in her Tribal Fusion Belly dance class. After that time, I took many long term classes in Tribal Fusion, Cabaret, and Egyptian Dance. As time moves on, I continue to expand my dance education. I strive to be the perpetual student, because there is always more I can learn when it comes to belly dance.
In 2008, I received my Journey through Egypt-1 certification from Dr. Sahra C. Kent. This introduces a variety of Egyptian dance styles. It gives you an overview of costumes, history, dance and ritual movement of Cairo, Nubia, Ghawazee, Delta, Suez Canal, Bedouin groups, Siwa, Sadi region, and the pan-Egyptian Zeffah, Zar and others. I plan to continue my JTF Certification to receive the full Egyptian Dace Ethnology experience.
Through each step I have taken in my years of dance, the love I have for this dance has grown and I want to share that with you. I am proud of myself and believe in myself. When I dance I am no longer "Paige", I am "Mynx".
