Peggy "Sphinx" Naquin
(GoddessLife Instructor)
I derive my name from a mixture of the mythological Sphinx of Greek culture, the Arabic Sphinxes, and the Egyptian Sphinx. All are considered unique creatures. They were usually represented as guardians that embodied wisdom, strength, and nobility.
As a cancer survivor, I have a new outlook on this beautiful world we live in and want to try and share that outlook with others. This new prospective I have gained has blossomed with my love of dance into something comforting and spiritual. I want to share this experience with other survivors of cancer and other terminal illnesses, as well as those without.
I was also involved in a major car accident and have had to overcome various physical ailments and rehabilitate myself from this experience. In this situation, I gained the knowledge of rehabilitation through dance. I realized that I can help students accommodate for most bodily ailments when learning. I will be patient and sympathetic to your every need as you learn this ancient art.
Through these trials and tribulations I came to realize my passion. I want to teach, help, motivate, and rehabilitate the body, mind and soul. I welcome women of all shapes, sizes, cultures, and physical capability to enjoy who they are, exactly as they are, letting the goddess within them shine into every aspect of their life.
I have taken Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Tap, Dance Meditation, and Hip Hop, but spent most of my time on Gymnastic and Cheerleading teams until I graduated high school in 2000.
In 2003, I found Dolphina's GoddessLife Belly Dance series and began my journey through belly dance. In 2005, I started taking local Tribal Fusion Belly Dance classes with the "LaLovely Lady Morrighan" of Hammond, LA. Since then, I have taken various long term classes with instructors in Tribal Fusion, Cabaret, and Egyptian Dance. I continue to expand my dance experience and education through various dance workshops and certifications for my personal growth. I strive to learn anything and everything I can about the many different styles of dance.
In 2008, I received my Journey Through Egypt-1 Certification from Dr. Sahra C. Kent (Sahra Saeeda), which introduces a variety of Egyptian dance styles with an overview of costume, history, and dance and ritual movement of Cairo, Nubia, Ghawazee, Delta, Suez Canal, Bedouin groups, Siwa, Saidi region, and have learned of the pan-Egyptian Zeffah, Zar and others. I plan to continue my JTE Certification for the full Egyptian Dance Ethnology experience through the second course in May of 2011.
In 2010, I received my Teaching Certification through Dolphina's GoddessLife in the instruction of GoddessLife Cardiovascular Belly Dance. This method teaches that every woman is a goddess. I strive to help turn the key to unlocking every woman's goddess within (mentally, spiritually, and physically). With the GoddessLife class, you will be taught "how to be confident, how to love your body, and how to create non-competitive meaningful and fun relationships with other women".
